CUISINART CGG-180T CGG180T Portable Propane, 13

Not every trip involves a large trailer, and not every tailgate enthusiast has a vehicle with a tailgate. Sometimes a man or woman really wants to grill, but it’s not practical to carry a heavy grill.

So is there a truly lightweight propane gas grill?

The masters of kitchen gadgets, Cuisinart, heard our pleas and responded with this small, portable, lightweight, almost tiny grill.

The CGG-180T is designed for portability above all else. It has folding legs that fit neatly under the body, and the oversized lid handle lets you carry it around like a briefcase.

Surprisingly, this little stove weighs only 13.5 pounds. Carrying it around shouldn’t be a problem. In fact, a good percentage of the weight is the porcelain-covered cast iron grill. It’s nice to know that they didn’t skimp on this important piece of the grill.

Naturally, cooking space is limited on such a small unit. It measures 16 x 16.5 x 13 inches and gives you 145 square inches to work with. That’s not much, but it’s enough to cook a few burgers, dogs, chops, steaks or vegetables. Cuisinart claims you can make up to 8 burgers at a time, but I think this is a slider, not big juicy patties.

It’s made of stamped steel, so don’t expect much heat retention, but honestly, that’s not why you want to buy this grill anyway.

Heat output can also be a challenge, with only 5,500 BTUs to cook with. Still, given the size of the grill, that should be enough for basic dishes, and its excellent features also make it a contender in our search for the best tabletop grills.
