The first thing that comes to mind when you look at this portable grill is that it looks designed to travel. Instead of being a tabletop appliance, this clever model is one of the few portable appliances that comes standard with a full-height stand. Best of all, it’s built into the grill. Best of all, it has wheels and a handle for towing.
The overall design of the unit is remarkable and a testament to Coleman’s decades of experience in building equipment for the outdoor enthusiast.
It’s a fairly large unit at 32 x 35 x 19 inches, weighing 44 pounds, and with 285 square inches of cooking space. You can take full advantage of all that space with a variety of optional and interchangeable cooking surfaces, and convenient built-in hooks are there for you to hang your tools while you work. There are also small side tables that fold up.
Okay, so it’s a smart design. But, can you really grill on it? Of course you can! Turn it on with the ignition button, then turn on the burners. Yes, the burners. Plural. Each burner provides 10,000 BTUs for a total of 20,000 BTUs. Not only can you cook hard and fast, but you can also create separate temperature zones with a single LPG tank.
The grates are made of porcelain-coated cast iron, which ensures even heat and long life. Be aware, however, that the low-profile lid doesn’t allow you to cook food much larger than a hamburger or chicken legs.
This is a ruggedly built grill designed for travel. That said, it is quite heavy, weighing in at over 20kg. So you won’t be carrying it in a backpack, but the built-in wheels and handle will allow you to roll it to the picnic site, parking lot, cottage dock or wherever you plan to cook.
